Project Summary
A 6.3 million dollar, 1420 seat division three collegiate multi-purpose hockey arena built in 1996 as the first phase of a three phase master plan to upgrade the athletic facilities at Norwich University.

The building has masonry exterior walls supported by a custom designed steel superstructure and a reinforced concrete foundation. The roof is constructed of insulated metal sandwich panels specifically developed for use in ice arenas. The building includes many innovative features not common at the time of it’s construction including aluminum support-less glass dasher system (first university to employ such a system), desiccant dehumidification (previously used almost exclusively in cold storage facilities), an indirect refrigeration system (creating the safest possible environment for the occupant), an ultra high strength ice slab (created utilizing custom mix of Vermont quarry granite aggregate), sub slab heating pipes (for year round ice slab stability), thermal seating for occupant comfort (seats warm with your body heat), easy hook up broadcast capability, multiple types of air quality sensors and much more. The building has become a model for others to follow.

The Arena includes 6 visiting team rooms, an NU team suite, (training room, team room, changing room, weight room, bathroom), a skate sharpening shop, managers office, main lobby, visiting team lobby, ticket room, officials room, resurfacer room (with ice melt pit and backup resurfacer parking), refrigeration room and full size truck access directly into main arena area.
